Fire Prevention and Permits

Permitting and inspections:

Ashby Fire’s fire prevention department issues permits, conducts inspections, conducts community based educational outreach.

The fire prevention staff at the Ashby Fire Department can be reached from 8AM to 4PM Monday – Friday

Inspections can be scheduled: M-F  8AM – 4PM – If necessary inspections can be arranged by special request after hours or on weekends although availability of an inspector can not always be guaranteed. All inspection times are subject to change in the event of an emergency call.

Online Payments:

The department is now capable of accepting electronic payments for permitting online or in person.

(Please note that for issuance of any permit you will still have to contact the department.)

Open Air Burn Permits:


Fee: $25.00 Check / Cash / Electronic Payment

Permits can be obtained online or at the Ashby Fire Station, 1093 Main St. The $25 fee for the burn permits will be in effect and the permit is valid until the end of the usual burn season on May 1st at 4:00 pm.

All Mass General Laws pertaining to Open Air Burning must be followed.

Please call to set up an appointment. Fee: $50 no fee for re-inspections.

Commercial fire alarm systems:

Wiring permits are obtained from the inspector of wires and building department. Final occupancy of a property, commissioning of a new alarm system or alterations to an existing system will require fire department inspection in addition to any inspections required by the building department. Please call to schedule inspections.
